2016-01-23 23:43 | German wikipedia says that design of the ATS is called "Stummelheck". Never heard a german say that.  Ironically Wikipedia also says that Hatchback can be "Stummelhecks" too. Thats just hatchbacks with very short rear. |

Oh, okay then, I see it is a thing that depends on state, because in CZ we have it as that: Hatchback - car with end cutted off and rear window open with trunk - for example Golf, Astra, Ibiza, Fabia Liftback - something between hatchback an sedan. It have openable rear window together with trunk, but it is shaped moreless like a sedan - Passat, Vectra, Octavia Fastback - it is not a regular word in CZ (mostly between US cars enthusiasts, which I am), but since the Bullit Mustang is a great example of a Fastback, I use it personally only for coupes without clear border of cabin and trunk - 1980s Rapid EDIT: I just translated the word "hatch" to see what it means. It sounds funny, something like entrance to a submarine. BTW we dont have for hatchback nor liftback our own words, but for fastback we use phrase "Kup se splvavou zd" - "Coupe with merged back" -- Last edit: 2016-01-23 22:56:21 |

We either say 4- or 5-door. The 5-door is the classic Hatchback given by the common explanation. The word Flieheck is rarely used, specifically on cars that are available as Sedan and Hatchback. The Opel Insignia is one of current rare examples where we germans call it a Flieheck so to differ it from the "Stufenheck"-Insignia (= Sedan). Edit: Oh and the term Liftback is handled like "Fastback" in Germany. Its just a manufacturer name. -- Last edit: 2016-01-23 22:40:21 |
