Mark0 2016-02-13 08:40 | Since i my family restore classic cars i have driven many of them and i must say it's hell a lot harder to drive 1970's-1980's Mini with 60-70hp than new my brother 2003 Mini with 120hp. There are no electronics and servo helpers or so. Funny thing when i was Track Day with my friend and first i was driving his 2012 BMW 535d with 313hp and then my MG B GT with 120hp. That BMW was child play even if it has over 300hp. |
Desscythe17 2016-02-13 04:04 | JFK wrote I got that experience vice versa. We went to shopping trip to Poland two years ago or so, and alternator in car broke down, that forced belt to split in half.... just before country borders (literally 10 meters), tow truck rescured us (hopefully for in-country tows under certain distance it was free, so we were very lucky), and as a replacement vehicle from Renault dealership we got Thalia. Laguna - 1.6, 107hp, roughly 1350 kg Thalia - 1.2, 75hp, roughly 1000 kg or less My dad usually drive as a complete lunatic, but amount of force that pushed me back with every acceleration was huge. Laguna with hammer down dont act like this, you dont feel much acceleration in it. Yes my sister actually has a 2005 Clio with the 1.6 110hp engine. It's a very feisty car, and I can imagine it has that same character even with a smaller engine. |
JFK 2016-02-13 00:34 | Desscythe17 wrote I wouldn't say frightening, but the difference would definitely be noticable. I remember after I got my driver's license (I had lessons in a 2010 Polo 1.2 Diesel with 75hp) I got to drive my father's car, a 2003 Honda Accord 2.4 with 190hp. That car was a lot heavier than the Polo, but it was so difficult in the beginning to not launch forward when pressing the gas pedal. It felt like 190hp was like 300hp. Desscythe17 2016-02-13 00:05 | JFK wrote From that point of view yeah. I dont remember much of this car (7,5 years old when it was sold), but after riding 1st gen Thalia with basic 1.2 engine that had similar amount of power and weight like our 1.4 Chamade, it must be frightnening to ride Chamade with more horsepower than basic 60. JFK 2016-02-12 22:21 | Desscythe17 wrote Yes that is true, but if you don't consider the sport model, it still is the most powerful, which I think is quite a feat. 89hp for a diesel engine in 1989 is also quite formidable I think. JFK 2016-02-12 18:36 | Our old family car, I miss it that much BTW: I am not 100% sure about engine years, these might be off. |
