I would like to hear your opinion (EDIT: and of course fck´s too) on Maluch, since it is a big part of Polish car heritage. I personally like that car, much like every car from communism, but unfortunately I havent ridden one.


Yes, it was a good car comparing to its time and circumstances, but choosing it as a daily car today is absolute madness.

It's awfully slow (almost minute to get 100km/h, it's hard to safely enter to crowded roads outside town. It's more than likely you will became a decent car mechanic after spendind a year or two with 126p - it brokes and need maintenance (lubricating, fulfilling oils) very often. But in fact almost every repair is simple even for a beginner. You can demount an engine and rear axle in minutes. Fuel consumption is way too big for its performace (7-8l/100km), you need to tune the carburator from time to time and won;t be shocked if your Maluch eats even 10l/100km if you forgot about that. It has almost no luggage, space in the rear is enough at most for 8yo kid. Sometimes he tries to kill you by weak, easily heating brakes or sudden opening the doors (from mod. 1978, I know the guy who screw this up) - few years ago I almost lost my girlfriend that way entering a corner with 70kmh.. :D

But there are three IMO most important advantages:
1. It's uncredible easy and cheap to repair
2. It performs better in really bumpy roads than some modern "SUV"s
3. Irreplaceable in mountains during winter - you need to just to turn out your car, turn on reverse gear and you will slowly climb on every snowed height ( Few einters ago I was the only one who did this somwhere in Beskid mountains, any other car, even the modern ones failed at most in the middle :D)

oh, and 4. It has nice swap potential - I saw Maluch with several engines like Uno 1.1, Punto 1.2, Yamaha R1 and it;s ride like hell. :D

Agree. If you don't need 5dr body choose CC Sporting. I drove CC900 for a week and it's reliable as a typical city car. Incredible visibility in all directions, more space than in Tico, more comfortable seats, quite spacious for its size. The only reason you can choose Tico is you absolutely need 5 doors or you are absolutely out of money. According to polish users of these cars Tico consuming much less fuel:

I type also lpg consumption in case if you decide to look after your car in Poland where more than a half of these cars has mounted LPG instalation.

Can't find why we're using 'w' in Moscow, but this is an exception. в is a 'v' in every cyrillic-english transcription standard. Why not 'Moskva'? Because in XII century this city was called "Moskov".

Indeed, but the agreement between FIAT and POLMOT from X.1971 provides that foreign currency expenditures for the purchase of machinery, equipment, parts and components of the car until they produce in Poland, will be repaid by FSM export. So some of pre-1979 126's were built in Poland as well as every 126 made after 8.6.1979.

These two prototypes was build based on Giulia Sprint GT chassis and were equipped with 1.6 Giulia TI engine, not V8s used in serial production.

It's not precisely a Isetta clone. Otto Hoffmann wanted to buy Isetta licence but BMW has preced him. So he decided to develop his own car modeled on ISO Isetta. Then BMW has filed his lawsuit for plagiarism and copying the design. Although the process ended amicably, it turned out that in the meantime the situation of Hoffmann factory has undergone a dramatic change. This is because the company Piaggio, Vespa licensor Hoffman withdrew permission for production under restrictions for unauthorized and arbitrary introduction of design changes. In mid-1955 years Hoffmann deprived of the basic products went bankrupt.

i had another idea. A system of election vote:
For example each week (or less?) there is a question and a list of 10 cars (that was post by a member before):
For example: Best Concept in Frankfurt? Most Iconic Car in Dakar? Most Beautiful Super Mini cars? Most ugly car? Best James Bond cars? etc
Each member can vote by classing 1 to 10 each cars and each car have (as Eurovision) 12pts,10,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1. And at the end of the week the results are revealed.
What do you think of that?

They did it to make this car able to start in 1600 ccm class (due to 1,4 coefficient). But I have no idea why they chose 120 engine instead 105. Maybe because S120 engine is a little bit "squarer" what is make engine more flexible. But it's just a blind guess.

If origin of engine is from standard car, it isnt a 120 engine, but slightly resized 105. As far as I know this type of car wasnt made with 1100 cc engine, only with 1050 or 1200 and later with 1300 cc ones.


According to Karel Repa's book "Škoda 130 RS : vítěz Mistrovství Evropy značek 1981" it was downsized 120 engine.

Yes, it was for hill climbing and it was racing for at least 3 years. You can see pages Závody (Races) 1979, Závody 1980, and Závody 1981 with photos in it, that is my source.


In fact - 4 years. But there were major exterior changes for 1981 season, not sure about technical ones.

That's the first reason. Second one is almost none visual differences between them.
